What is Bakugan? Ask any 5 to 13 year old and they will tell you about the Bakugan toys but you will probably come away as puzzled as you were before you asked! The word bakugan means "exploding sphere" in Japanese, where the cartoon originates. So the bakugan toys are exploding spherical toys! Let's start at the beginning. The Bakugan toys are derived from Bakugan, a cartoon TV series. They are now a super popular game for children based on the series. The Bakugan toys are collected and traded by children. Since there are 100 or more Bakugan toy characters and accessories there is a great deal of scope for collecting the Bakugans. The second season of Bakugan is sheduled for Spring 2010 so there will be another big rush to buy the Bakugan games and toys. The collection of bakugan toys is growing rapidly and they are so popular that it has sometimes been hard to find them in the stores. The Bakugan game can be played with or without the battle arena but a basic starter pack is required. To play you need the marble that transforms into an action figure when rolled over a magnetic card. Children can collect many of the Bakugan pieces and between them and their friends gather enough pieces to stage a great Bakugan Brawlers battle. There is also the Bakugan battle arena which acts as a board game for the brawlers battles. The Bakugan toys combines skill with strategy. If you have bought the Bakugan battle arena or another toy from the series you may be wondering how to play Bakugan game because the toys do not always come with instructions. The Bakugan battle arena doesn't come with instructions which is a pity. The Bakugan Starter Pack and Bakugan Battle Pack both have instructions though, so maybe you should buy these first if your child doesn't already know how to play Bakugan. This was my son's favorite gift for Christmas. He is six, and just loves it. It is great also because it is a fun game that he can play with older kids in our neighborhood as well. They love to "battle" and trade cards. I highly recommend it. It is a great learning game with math calculations involved for the scoring. Fun for us to do together as well. Will advise that at first it is hard to understand how to score. Go online to figure it out. The directions were not clear on that.
